The Premiere
So it happened. We made a tv show. (That’s technically true, although we still have a whole lot of work to do before we’re done. One episode does not a series make.) Our first episode went out Friday night on UF’s Campus Channel 8, beamed out to the residence halls. We were on before “Watchmen”! How exciting! A bunch of us gathered together to watch it in the...

Here we go!
Wow, what an experience this has been! We are only days away from the world premiere of “Oppie’s Friend, Gene,” and I can’t even describe to you the excitement and anticipation that’s surging through my veins. Three full months of filming long hours and in tough elements (this whole thing doesn’t just take place in a dorm, y’know…or on campus, for...

Our Day in the Sun
The title is kind of referring to how hot it was. (It was really hot) As often as our days are about light (and it bouncing off people and into our camera), today seemed especially dominated by it. For our first hour or so of attempted shooting the sun was beating down on us. Everyone got really sick of the heat really quickly. Also, the harsh sunlight was way too intense. When a truck...

HERstory
So Summer B is officially winding down here in Gainesville. That means we’ve been working on this TV(ish) show for two summer sessions, around twelve weeks (I could check this blog to see the actual start date, but y’know. Clicking).  That may seem like a long time, but some of us have known Oppie for much, much longer. The writers of TSF Sketch were first introduced to this idea way...

Twenty-one hours of shoot (part 2)
Eight in the morning. We did not get to the dorm on time. Ah well. But, since the majority of the cast and crew now live in one giant house, we were able to get everyone together and get there eventually. Filup continued rewriting as we started setting up the dorm. Cory shaved all the hair on his body for the first of many, many, shooting days that require him to be completely 100% hairless. ...

Twenty-one hours of shoot (part 1)
We shot for 21 hours on Monday and finished off about 13 pages of episode 5. It’s a 17 page script. (Fun fact: each script page ends up yielding about a minute of screen time. For each minute of screen time, we probably are shooting about a half hour of footage. I think someone estimates that each page takes about 2 hours to shoot, plus time for montage, action, etc.) There are often...

Back in the dorm today. We’ve started shooting Episode Four in a big way. On Wednesday we shot the first six pages, minus a quick montage, and today we finished up that montage. Montage’s are really easy to write but then a little more difficult to actually film. For a few lines of script, we may have to spend two days running all over gainesville shooting different locations,...

Introductions
We’re about 36 shooting days deep into this project and I’ve been thinking about how we haven’t necessarily introduced ourselves properly on this blog. I’m going to try to explain what each of us does. If I do a poor enough job, it might actually get some of THE OTHERS to post something. I’ll start with myself. I am RYAN MOULTON and I’m the DIRECTOR OF...
